Houston Personal Injury FAQs
The questions people actually call about
Texas generally gives you two years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury lawsuit. There are exceptions that shorten it considerably — claims against a government entity can require notice within months. Waiting is the single most common way people lose an otherwise good case.
Nothing up front. Personal injury cases are handled on contingency — the fee comes out of the recovery, and if there is no recovery there is no fee. You will get the percentage in writing before you sign anything.
Often yes. Your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may apply, and there may be other responsible parties — an employer, a vehicle owner, a bar that overserved. This is exactly the kind of question worth a free call before you assume you're out of luck.
Not before you talk to a lawyer. Adjusters are trained to ask questions whose answers reduce what they pay. You are generally not required to give the other side's insurer a recorded statement at all.
A straightforward claim with clear liability can resolve in a few months. A disputed case that has to be filed and worked up can run a year or more. We would rather tell you the honest range at the start than the optimistic one.
